HP Deskjet 2020, 2029 Printers - Replacing the Ink Cartridges

This document is for HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2020hc and DeskJet Ultra Ink Advantage 2029 printers.
This document contains steps for replacing the cartridges.
Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.

Replacing cartridges

Follow these steps to replace and align the cartridges.

Step one: Replace the cartridges

Follow these steps to replace a cartridge.
  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on.
  2. Open the cartridge access door.
    The carriage moves to the center of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

  3. Lightly press down on a cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge out to remove it from its slot.

  4. On the replacement cartridge, carefully remove the plastic tape using the pink pull tab.

      caution:
    Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  5. Insert the cartridge into its correct slot.
    note:
    Insert the color cartridge in the slot on the left. Insert the black cartridge in the slot on the right.

  6. Check to make sure the cartridges sit firmly in the carriage. If a cartridge is loose, gently push inward and upward until the cartridge snaps into place.

  7. Close the cartridge access door.

Step two: Align the cartridges

The printer's software prompts you to align the cartridges when you print a document after installing a new cartridge.
