DESCRIPTION
A SecureDigital (SD) flash memory device with a drive encryption key stored on it cannot be recognized by Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools in a pre-boot up environment. As a result, the encrypted drive cannot be recovered using just the SD device.

All 2011 and 2012 HP Notebook PCs
RESOLUTION
If you have an encryption key stored on a Secure Digital (SD) flash memory device, there are two ways to recover the drive in a pre-boot up environment:
  1. Connect an external SD reader to one of the notebook's USB ports, then insert the card to access the encryption during start up.
  2. Copy the encryption key to a USB flash drive, then connect the flash drive to one of the notebook's USB ports to access the encryption key during start up.
