HP EliteBook 8540p Notebook PC/8540w Mobile Workstation - No Audio on HDTV When Attached Via Display Port to HDMI Adapter

Issue
The sound will not be passed through to the HDTV when the notebook is attached to the HDMI port of the TV via display port to HDMI adapter.
Solution
First make sure that the entire chain supports HDCP; that includes the display port to HDMI adapter, the HDMI cable, and the TV. The status can be checked in the NVidia Control Panel, Display section, View HDCP status.
Currently, neither Intel nor ATI offer such an option in their video driver.
  note:
Some third party display port to HDMI adapters might not (fully) support the HDCP. The HP product that has successfully been tested in the scope of this content creation is BP937AA.
Then, the HDTV has to be selected as the default device by right clicking the TV and selecting the Set as Default Device option. After that, the sound should be played by the speakers of the TV.
Additional considerations:
Some HDTV devices require an appropriate setting of the audio source. Also in case of a more complex HiFi setup (sound via surround system), the correct line and/or configuration has to be selected. Please review the user guide of these devices.
It might be required to set the default device back to the notebook internal speakers after unplugging the display port to DVI adapter.
