Version: 1

Advisory: Compaq AirLife 100 Series - Certain Flash-based Web Pages Fail to Load Appropriately

Notice:: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the release date. The document is subject to change without notice.

Release date : 19-Apr-2010

Last updated : 24-May-2010

DESCRIPTION
Certain Flash-based Web pages fail to load appropriately on the Compaq AirLife 100.
Symptoms:
These issues/error messages are encountered:
  • Certain Web sites display a message requesting users to upgrade the Flash version
  • Touching on embedded videos on some Web sites displays a Web Page Not Available error
  • Default view in some Web-based e-mail sites does not load
  • Unable to scroll through content on some Web pages
  • Some embedded videos play poorly and may skip or be choppy during the playback
  • Some embedded videos will be clipped horizontally or vertically when played
  • Web sites with large sized pictures may not be displayed correctly
  • Unable to search for content on some Web pages using the Search feature
  • Verification is prevented on some Web sites because the visual verification codes necessary to create accounts or access some sites are not displayed
  • Selecting dates from some online calendars is not possible
  • Attempting to play a video forces the browser to exit unexpectedly
  • Fail to load video content appropriately because the User Agent (UA) string has been changed. Some video sites cannot play when the UA string has been changed from Mobile to Default.
These issues occur because the Browser application on the device uses FlashLite v3.1.7 to display Web sites that use Flash features. However, the large size pictures and videos available on these Web sites require complex Flash features that are not included in the FlashLite version installed on the device. Consequently, these Web pages fail to load appropriately.

RESOLUTION
The Compaq AirLife 100 uses FlashLite v3.1.7 that does not include certain features of Flash. Consequently, Web sites using complex Flash features are not displayed appropriately.
  note:
The current version of FlashLite (v3.1.7) that is installed on your device cannot be upgraded.
  note:
If the Web pages are not rendering appropriately, users may change the UA string to Default, Desktop, or Mobile and refresh the Web page.
Follow these steps to change the UA string:
  1. Open the App Drawer, and then touch Browser.
  2. Press MENU on the keyboard, touch More, and then touch Settings
  3. Scroll to the Advanced settings section, and then touch User agent.
However, if users change the UA string from Default to either Desktop or Mobile, some Web pages may display incorrectly.
