HP Compaq nx6115 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Switch Cover

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Switch cover for the HP Compaq nx6115 Notebook PC.
Tools required
  • T8-4 mm screw driver
  • T8-9 mm screw driver

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Switch cover that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

The use of the Original Spare part is regulated by RoHS legislation. If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Modified Spare number, the Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part. If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Original Spare number, please order the Original Spare as the replacement part. In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Switch cover removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the three T8-4 mm screws inside the battery bay that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
  3. Remove the T8-9mm screw that secures the switch cover to the base enclosure.
  4. Turn the notebook right side up and open the display panel fully.
  5. Insert a flat-bladed tool into the two notches on the front edge of the switch cover, one behind the F1/F2 keys and one behind the pause/insert keys, to disengage the front edge of the switch cover from the notebook.
  6. Use a flat-bladed tool to lift the switch cover hinge covers off of the display panel hinges.
  7. Swing the rear of the switch cover forward to separate it from the display panel.
  8. Disconnect the power button board cable from the power button board connector on the system board.
  9. Remove the switch cover.
Switch cover replacement
  note:
Before replacing the switch cover, remove the power button board and cable from the old switch cover and install on the new switch cover.
  1. Place the switch cover upside down on the top cover.
  2. Reconnect the power button board cable to the power button board connector on the system board.
  3. Place the switch cover into position on the top cover.
  4. Press along the entire length of the switch cover to snap it into place.
  5. Close the display panel and turn the notebook upside down.
  6. Replace the T8-9mm screw that secures the switch cover to the base enclosure.
  7. Replace the three T8-4 mm screws inside the battery bay that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
