HP Photosmart C8150, C8180, C8183, and C8188 All-in-One Series - Horizontal Streaks or Lines in the Printed Image

Issue

The product is working, but the printout shows streaks or lines. The lines are perpendicular to the direction the paper moved through the product and parallel to the movement of the printhead during printing.

Solution

Step one: Make sure you have genuine HP ink cartridges

HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. If the ink cartridges have been refilled, try replacing them with genuine HP ink cartridges.

Step two: Clean the printheads using HP Solution Center

  1. Make sure that there is plain, unused, white paper in the input tray.
  2. In the HP Solution Center, click Settings, point to Print Settings, and then click Printer Toolbox.
  3. Click the Device Services tab.
  4. Click Clean the Printheads.
The product cleans the printheads and prints a page that can be recycled or discarded.
  5. If the quality of the output is satisfactory, click Done. If the quality of the output is not satisfactory, click Clean the Printheads again.
    note:
The printheads may be cleaned as many as three times.
If no defects appear on the diagnostic page, the cartridges and product are probably working correctly. Click here to continue troubleshooting (c00211601) (in English).

Step three: Align the printheads

  1. Make sure that only plain, unused, white paper is loaded in the input tray.
  2. Touch Setup on the touch screen.
  3. Touch Tools, then touch Align Printer.
  4. The product prints a test page, aligns the printheads, and calibrates.

  5. Touch OK after the alignment page is printed. The alignment is complete when the alignment page is printed. Recycle or discard the page.

Step four: Service the product

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.
Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.
To confirm your warranty status, go to HP Product Warranty Check. Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty products.
