HP ENVY 6200, 7100, 7800 Printers - First Time Printer Setup

This document is for HP ENVY Photo 6220, 6230, 6232, 6234, 6252, 6255, 7120, 7130, 7134, 7155, 7158, 7164, 7820, 7830, 7855, 7858, and 7864 All-in-One printers.

To set up a printer for the first time, remove the printer and all packing materials from the box, connect the power cable, set control panel preferences, load paper into the input tray, install the ink cartridges, and then download and install the printer software.

Take the printer out of the box and remove the tape, stickers, and packing materials.

1. Take the printer out of the box, and then remove all tape, packing materials, and stickers from the exterior and the control panel.
2. Lift the scanner lid, remove the packing material from the scanner glass, and then close the scanner lid.
   
3. Gently grasp the handles on either side of the printer, raise the ink cartridge access door until it locks into place, and then remove all tape and packing material from inside the printer.
   
4. Close the ink cartridge access door.
5. Recycle the packing materials.

Plug the printer into a wall outlet, turn on the printer, and then set preferences.

Do not connect a USB cable at this time. The connection to the computer is established during software installation.

1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer and to an electrical outlet.
   
2. Turn on the printer.
3. Select your preferred language and country/region, and then touch Yes.

Install the ink cartridges that shipped in the box with your printer.

1. Open the ink cartridge access door.
2. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.
3. Remove an ink cartridge from the packaging. Be careful to only touch the black plastic on the ink cartridge.
   
4. Remove the plastic tape from the ink cartridge.

   Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Do not replace the protective tape on the contacts. Handling these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

   
5. Insert the ink cartridge at a slight upward angle into the empty slot, and then gently push up on the ink cartridge until it snaps into place. The color ink cartridge goes in the left slot and the black ink cartridge goes in the right slot.
   
6. Repeat these steps for the other ink cartridge.
7. Close the ink cartridge access door.

Remove packing material and tape from the paper trays, and then load plain U.S. letter or A4 paper in the main tray.

1. Pull open the input tray, remove the output tray, and then remove all tape and packing materials from the photo tray.
   
2. With the paper tray pulled out, push in the photo tray.
   
3. Remove all tape and packing materials from inside the input tray.
4. Slide the paper-width guides outward.
   
5. Load a stack of plain paper until it stops at the back of the tray, and then slide the paper-width guides in until they lightly rest against the edges of the paper.
   
6. Replace the output tray, and then push the paper tray back in.
   The printer starts an initialization process. It is normal for the printer to make noises during this process. After the process completes, the printer prints a calibration page.
7. Recycle all packing materials.

After completing the printer hardware set up, install the print driver or mobile app to set up the connection to your computer, smartphone, or tablet. Do not attempt to connect the printer until instructed to during the guided installation.
