HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101-4104 - 31.13 jam error in the document feeder

Use the following procedure to check for paper in all possible jam locations related to the document feeder.

When a jam occurs, the control panel displays an animation that assists in clearing the jam.

• Document feeder job error, pick error.

Clear Paper Jams in the Document Feeder | HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101-4104, Enterprise MFP M430-M431

No audio. Learn how to clear paper jams in the document feeder and clear a 31.13 error. Applies to HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101, 4002, 4003, 4004 dw/fdn/fdwp printers; HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101, 4102, 4103, 4104 dwe/fdne/fdwe HP+ printers; and HP LaserJet Enterprise MFP M430 and M431 printers.

1. Open the document feeder cover.

   

2. Gently pull the jammed paper out.

   

3. Close the document feeder cover. Make sure it is completely closed.

   

4. Open the document feeder tray cover.

   

5. Gently pull the jammed paper out.

   

6. Close the document feeder tray cover.

   

7. Open the scanner lid. If paper is jammed in the scanner lid, gently pull it out, and then close the scanner lid.

   

8. Ensure that the input tray is not overloaded and that the tray guides are set to the correct size. Make sure that the paper stack is correctly aligned at the center of the input tray when paper is loaded in the tray. The correct position of the loaded paper is parallel with the direction of travel into the document feeder paper path.

   Note:

   To avoid jams, make sure the guides in the document feeder input tray are adjusted correctly. Remove all staples, paper clips, or tape from original documents.

   Note:

   Original documents that are printed on heavy, glossy paper can jam more frequently than originals that are printed on plain paper.

9. Open the document feeder and check and clean the Document Feeder Kit rollers and separation pad by removing any visible lint or dust from each of the feed rollers and the separation pad using a clean lint-free cloth moistened with warm water.
