HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise - Manage an HP Jetdirect 3000w NFC/Wireless or 3100w BLE/NFC/Wireless Accessory

The following sections contain instructions on how to configure the settings for the print server or accessory. There are two methods for configuring these settings: (1) by using the printer control panel, or (2) by using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

1. Locate the printer's LAN IP address on the printer control panel:

   Note:

   The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

   FutureSmart 3 control panels

   

   FutureSmart 4 control panels

   

   • FutureSmart 3: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press or touch the Wireless icon to display the IP address or host name.

   • FutureSmart 4: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press or touch the Information icon , and then select the Wireless icon to display the IP address or host name.

2. Open the Embedded Web Server:

   1. On your computer, open a Web browser, and in the address bar, type the IP address or host name exactly as it displayed on the printer control panel.

   2. Press Enter on the computer keyboard.

      Note:

      If the browser displays a message indicating that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue to the website. Accessing the website will not harm the computer.

      The EWS opens.

Use the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) to enable NFC printing and password security.

In addition to the instructions below, you can view the following video of how to enable NFC printing.

1. Connect to the printer as a network connection.

   1. Using a wireless computer, phone, or tablet, open the list of available wireless networks.

   2. Select the "DIRECT-xx-HP..." option, and then select Connect.

2. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) in a Web browser on your computer.

   Note:

   For information on how to access the EWS, refer to the Before you begin: How to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) section further up in this document.

3. On the EWS Home page, click the Security tab.

4. In the left navigation pane, make sure General Security is selected, and then scroll down to the Near Field Communication (NFC) section.

5. Click the check box next to Enable Near Field Communication (NFC) to enable NFC (if it is not already enabled).

6. To make the password visible and require the user to enter the password in order to print using NFC, clear the check box next to Show WPA2 passphrase in the NFC tag.

7. Click Apply to save the changes.

Use the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) to set the connection method and broadcast settings.

1. Connect to the printer as a network connection.

   1. Using a wireless computer, phone, or tablet, open the list of available wireless networks.

   2. Select the "DIRECT-xx-HP..." option, and then select Connect.

2. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) in a Web browser on your computer.

   Note:

   For information on how to access the EWS, refer to the Before you begin: How to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) section further up in this document.

3. On the EWS Home page, click the Networking tab.

4. In the left navigation pane, click Wireless Direct.

5. Set the Connection Method to Advanced, Auto, or Manual.

   Note:

   If the Connection Method is set to Advanced, you can restrict the broadcast of the SSID name by selecting the check box next to Do not broadcast the Wireless Direct Name (SSID).

6. If set to Advanced and allowing broadcast of SSID, select Channel, and then select 1 through 11 (the default is 6).

   Note:

   When set to allow the broadcast of the SSID, the channel setting can also be modified from the printer control panel.

7. Click Apply to save the changes.

To ensure printer compatibility and maintain regulatory compliance, update the printer firmware.

1. Make sure the HP Jetdirect accessory or print server is disconnected from the printer.

2. Go to www.hp.com/go/FutureSmart and select Upgrade now.

3. Find the printer in the list and then click the associated link in the Link to Firmware download column.

   A new page will display with a list of driver and firmware downloads that are available for your printer model.

4. Expand the Firmware section, locate the latest FutureSmart Bundle version, and then click Download.

The current technology limits the number of actively connected wireless clients to five. If you are unable to connect to the printer, the limit has been reached. Use the information below to check the number of NFC or Wireless Direct print clients.

Note:

The HP ePrint Software driver used on Windows 8 disconnects automatically from the wireless network at the conclusion of the print job.

1. Use one of the following methods to view a list of all printer connections and determine whether the connections limit has been reached:

   Note:

   The current wireless connection for each device is listed by MAC Address and IP Address.

   • Navigate to the Wireless menu on the printer control panel

     Note:

     The steps vary based on the type of control panel.

     • FutureSmart 3: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press or touch the Wireless icon

     • FutureSmart 4: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press or touch the Information icon , and then select the Wireless icon

   • Print a configuration page from the Reports menu on the printer control panel

   • View the event log messages

2. If there are more than five printer connections, close some wireless connections.
