HP ProBook G2 Notebook PCs - When Performing F11 Recovery, The Message "Windows Could Not Complete the Installation" Is Displayed After a Reboot During Windows 8 Downgrade

DESCRIPTION
F11 Recovery will not complete the image restore process. This issue occurs when a BIOS administrator password is set while performing a Windows 8 Downgrade to Windows 7.

SCOPE

  • HP ProBook 430 G2 Notebook PC
  • HP ProBook 440 G2 Notebook PC
  • HP ProBook 450 G2 Notebook PC
  • HP ProBook 470 G2 Notebook PC
Operating Systems:
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, perform the following steps to remove the BIOS password:
  1. Power on the computer in its failing state.
  2. Press F10 to boot to the BIOS.
  3. Under Security, select Change Password.
  4. Type in the old password in the password field and press Enter.
  5. Press the Enter key in the blank password field for the new password.
  6. Press the Enter key again to confirm the blank BIOS password.
  7. Go back to Main Menu.
  8. Select Save the changes and Exit
  9. click Yes to confirm save and exit the BIOS.
  10. Press F11 to boot to the Recovery environment.
  11. Follow on screen instructions to complete the recovery.
Note: When the recovery process is completed, the BIOS password can be re-set. Power on the computer and select F10. Choose Security and select Setup BIOS Administrator Password to create the BIOS password.
