HP LaserJet Enterprise 700 MFP M725 - Replace the formatter

  caution:

This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, place the product on an ESD mat (if available), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface. If an ESD workstation or mat is not available, ground yourself by touching the sheet-metal chassis before touching an ESD-sensitive part.

1. Do the following:
   1. Turn off the product.
   2. Disconnect the power cable.
   3. Disconnect all cables and accessories attached to the formatter.

     warning:

   To avoid damage to the product, turn the product off, wait five seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the product.

2. Loosen the two thumbscrews on the formatter.
   
3. Pull the formatter out of the product.
   

  caution:

ESD-sensitive part.

1. Flex the plastic tab (callout 1) on the hard disk assembly toward the disk to disengage the tab underneath the formatter PCA.
   
2. Slide the hard disk (callout 1) in the direction indicated to remove it from the formatter PCA. Do not discard the hard disk.

Set this part aside. It will be installed on the replacement formatter.

1. Release the two clips on either side of the DIMM by gently pulling them away from each other.
   
2. Rotate the DIMM upward, and then remove it. Do not discard the DIMM.

1. Release the fax PCA (callout 1) from the formatter connector (callout 2)
   
2. Rotate the PCA up and away from the formatter to remove it. Do not discard the fax PCA.

Do not dispose of the HDD, DIMM, or fax PCA that you removed earlier.

1. Place the hard disk on the replacement formatter, and then slide it towards the connector (callout 1) until it is seated in the connector.
   
2. Make sure that the hard drive is fully seated in the connector, and that the plastic tab (callout 1) is securely fastened to hold the hard drive in place.
   
   When correctly installed, the hard drive is lying flat against the formatter PCA. If the hard drive is not lying flat against the formatter PCA, remove it and then reinstall it.

1. Carefully insert the DIMM at an angle into the holder on the formatter.
   

   note:

   Position the DIMM so that the slot in the DIMM is aligned with the tab in the holder.

2. Rotate the DIMM in the direction of the arrow to install it.
   
3. When the DIMM is installed make sure that the retaining clips on the right and left sides of the DIMM snap into place.

1. Align the formatter with the guides at the top and bottom of the formatter cage and push the formatter into the slot until it is fully seated.
   
2. Finger-tighten the two thumbscrews.
   

1. Do the following:
   1. Connect the power cable.
   2. Turn on the product.
2. To verify that the formatter is correctly installed, observe the following functions of the LEDs on the formatter:
   • The heartbeat LED (callout 1) illuminates if the formatter is functioning correctly.
     • While the product is initializing, the heartbeat LED illuminates solid red for about one second, and then turns solid green for about twenty seconds.
     • After the initialization sequence is complete, the heartbeat LED blinks continuously if the printer is functioning correctly.
   • The connectivity LED (callout 2) indicates that the formatter is completely seated. It illuminates green when the product power is turned on and stays green if the formatter is properly seated.
   If the LEDs do not correctly function, turn the product power off, remove the formatter, and then reinstall it (make sure that the formatter is fully seated before tightening the thumbscrews).
