Before you begin

  • Have a Phillips head screwdriver ready.
  • Remove all CDs and DVDs from the optical drive.
  • Turn off the computer and disconnect all cables. Be sure to disconnect the network cable before disconnecting the power cord.
  • Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
  • Place the computer face-down on a soft flat surface. HP recommends placing the computer on a blanket, towel, or other soft cloth to protect the touch screen surface from scratches or other damage.
  • Remove a component from the protective packaging only when you are ready to install it.

Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing and replacing the access door

Remove the access door to get to the internal components.

Use the following steps to remove the access door:
Step 1
Place the computer face down on a soft flat surface. Make sure the stand is NOT overhanging the edge of the table.

Lift the stand up to its highest position so that the bottom of the stand is parallel to the surface of the table.

Find the two latches that secure the access door to the computer...

...and slide each latch towards the center of the computer.

Slide the access door down towards the bottom of the panel assembly and remove it from the computer.

Use the following steps to replace the access door:

Find the three tabs on the top edge of the access door...

...and then find the three slots on the computer.

To replace the access door, align the tabs slightly under their slots and slide the door up until the door is in place.

Slide the latches for the access door away from the center to secure the door in the computer.
