An 'Original Jam: Clear jam, and then press OK' Message Displays for HP Officejet 150 Mobile All-in-One Printer Series (L511)

Issue

When you use the scan tray to copy or scan, the error message 'Original Jam' displays on the product control panel.
Important: You must follow these solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue.

Solution one: Clear the paper jam

Follow these steps in the order presented to clear the paper jam, and then try the scan again.

note:
This video shows the HP Officejet 150 Mobile All-in-One Printer series (L511), but the steps are the same for your printer.

Step one: Remove any loose paper

Remove any loose sheets of paper from the scan tray, input tray, and the output slot.

Step two: Clear the paper jam from the scanner

Follow these steps to remove any jammed paper from the scanner.
  caution:
Do not put your hands inside the input tray. Use tweezers to remove paper that is hard to reach. Be careful not to scratch the inside of the product.
  1. If the product is not already off, press the Power button () to turn it off.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Remove the battery, if it is installed.

    1. Slide the battery release slider in the direction of the arrow.
    2. Pull the battery out of the battery slot.
  4. Lift the latch to release the scanner glass.

  5. Gently remove any jammed paper and bits of torn paper from behind the control panel. Use both hands to pull whole sheets of paper to avoid tearing them.

  6. After you remove all jammed paper from the scanner, find the two textured touch points in the scanner glass area.
    note:
    The touch points are on either side of the scanner glass area, directly behind the control panel.
  7. Using the two touch points, gently lift the scanner glass with both hands until it locks into place.
  8. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
  9. Reinstall the battery, if it was installed before you removed paper from the scanner.
    note:
    You can install the battery with the product turned on or off.

    1. Slide the battery into the battery slot at an angle.
    2. Push the battery into the battery slot until it clicks into place.
  10. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.
  11. Check the control panel to see if the following error message displays: ‘Close the scanner glass door, located behind the control panel.’
    • If the error message displays on the control panel, repeat the steps to close the scanner glass door until the error is gone.
    • If the error message does not display on the control panel, continue to the next step.

Step three: Load plain paper into the input tray

Step four: Load the original into the scan tray

Follow these steps to load the scan tray.
  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product, if it is not on already.
  2. Load the original, print side down, into the scan tray, so that the top edge goes in first and the right edge of the paper is against the right edge of the scan tray.
      caution:
    The scan tray holds a maximum of one sheet of paper. Inserting more than one page can cause jams and possibly damage your original.
    note:
    Do not load photos in the scan tray because this might cause damage to the photos. Use only media that is supported by the product. See the documentation that came with the HP product for more information.

  3. Slide the item into the scan tray until you hear a tone or see the message ‘Original Loaded' on the control panel. The tone or message indicates that the product detected the loaded pages.
  4. Find the paper guide on the left side of the scan tray. Slide the guide inward until it fits snugly, but not tightly, against the edge of the original.
    note:
    To scan multiple pages, wait for the printer to finish scanning the page, and then load the next page into the scan tray.

Step five: Try the scan job again

Try the scan again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Reset the All-in-One

Follow these steps to reset the product.

Step one: Reset the All-in-One

  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
  2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  4. Remove the battery, if it is installed.

    1. Slide the battery release slider in the direction of the arrow.
    2. Pull the battery out of the battery slot.
  5. Wait at least 15 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
  8. Reinstall the battery, if it was installed before you reset the product.
    note:
    You can install the battery with the product turned on or off.

    1. Slide the battery into the battery slot at an angle.
    2. Push the battery into the battery slot until it clicks into place.
  9. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.

Step two: Try to copy or scan

Try to copy or scan an original document from the scan tray to make sure that the scanner functions correctly.
Touch 'OK' to continue the task you started when the issue occurred.
note:
If the product does not continue the task, start the task again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution three: Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.
Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.
