HP LaserJet M1120, M1120n Printers - 'Supply Memory Error' Displays

This document is for HP LaserJet M1120 and M1120n Multifunction printers.
After you turn on the printer, a Supply Memory Error message displays on the printer control panel. The toner cartridge has an e-label error or a missing e-label, and the toner cartridge might not have full contact with the printer. To resolve the issue, remove and reinsert the toner cartridge, turn the printer off and on again, or replace the toner cartridge.

Step 1: Reinstall the toner cartridge

  1. Press the release button to open the toner cartridge door.

  2. Remove the toner cartridge.

  3. Reinstall the toner cartridge, and then close the toner cartridge door. Make sure you press the toner cartridge until you hear a click.

If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

Step 2: Reset the printer

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    note:
    HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

Step 3: Replace the toner cartridge

HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner supplies. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve the issue. To check the authenticity of your cartridges, go to the HP anti-counterfeit webpage (in English).
Follow these steps to replace the toner cartridge.
  1. Press the release button to open the toner cartridge door.

  2. Grasp the handle on the toner cartridge and then pull the toner cartridge straight out to remove it.

  3. Remove the new cartridge from its package.
  4. Hold the new toner cartridge horizontally, and then gently rotate the toner cartridge from front to back to distribute the toner evenly.

  5. Remove the orange cover from the new toner cartridge, and then pull the orange tab straight out to remove the seal.

  6. Insert the toner cartridge into the product until it locks into place, and then close the toner cartridge door.
