HP EliteBook Notebook PCs - Using DriveLock Feature on the Units

Information

DriveLock is a security feature that offers customers the advanced protection against unauthorized access to valuable data on their internal client hard drives. The feature has been designed to meet the needs of the customers who cannot afford for their sensitive data to fall into the wrong hands.
DriveLock is an industry standard security feature that helps prevent unauthorized access to the data on specific hard drives. DriveLock has been implemented as an extension to Computer Setup. It is only available on certain systems and only when DriveLock capable hard drives are detected.
DriveLock uses two passwords:
  • User password
  • Master password
Either of these passwords can be used to access the hard drive, but DriveLock protection can only be removed by using the Master password.
Each of these passwords:
  • Can be up to 32 alphanumeric characters and are not case sensitive.
  • Must be set and entered with the same keys. For example, a password set with keyboard number keys will not be recognized if it is entered with embedded keypad number keys.
There is no recovery for a forgotten DriveLock password. A DriveLock password can only be deleted by disabling DriveLock protection from the drive. There is no recovery if a master DriveLock password is forgotten.
