HP Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Hard Drive

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the hard drive for the HP Compaq 2710p series notebook PCs.
Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.
To view the video press the Play button on the player control bar below the video.
To stop the video press the Pause button on the player control bar below the video.

Step 1 - Remove the battery
  1. Slide and hold the battery locking latch to the unlocked position.
  2. Lift the rear edge of the battery and remove it from the battery bay.
Step 2 - Remove the hard disk drive
  1. Loosen the six captive P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the memory/wireless LAN/wireless WAN/hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the edge of the memory/wireless LAN/wireless WAN/hard disk drive cover and remove it.
  3. Remove the two 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive bracket to the base enclosure.
  4. Remove the hard disk drive bracket.
  5. Carefully lift the hard disk drive cable connector to disconnect it from the hard disk drive connector on the system board.
  6. Grasp the Mylar tab and slide the hard disk drive toward the inside of the notebook until it comes out from under the edge of the base enclosure.
  7. Grasp the Mylar tab on the rear edge of the hard disk drive and lift the hard disk drive out of the bay.
  8. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Step 3 - Replace the hard disk drive
  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay.
  3. Slide the hard disk drive toward the outside of the notebook until it fits under the edge of the base enclosure.
  4. Align the hard disk drive cable connector with the hard disk drive connector on the system board.
  5. Press down on the hard disk drive cable connector to seat the connector.
  6. Place the hard disk drive bracket into position in the base enclosure.
  7. Replace the two 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive bracket to the base enclosure.
  8. Toe the memory/wireless LAN/wireless WAN/hard disk drive cover into the enclosure.
  9. Tighten the six captive P0 Phillips-head screws.
Step 4 - Replace the battery
  1. Toe the front edge of the battery into the base enclosure.
  2. Lower the front edge of the battery and press the battery into the battery bay until the locking latch clicks.
