HP Color LaserJet 4600, 4650, 4700, CP4005, 5500 and 5550 Printer Series - Grinding Noise During Warm-up or During Printing
Issue:
The printer makes a grinding noise after it is turned on during warm-up and calibration. This same grinding noise during printing can also be heard while printing.
Solution
Go through the following troubleshooting steps to isolate the cause. From a READY state, do the following:
-
Disable cartridge check.
-
Remove all of the print cartridges.
- Verify if the white gear on the top right-hand side of the cartridge is damaged or unseated. See Figure 1. If so, replace the cartridge. If not, proceed to step 4.Figure : Damaged or unseated white gear on the print cartridge
-
Print a Configuration page. It will be blank because there are no print cartridges installed.
-
Listen to the printer and verify if the noise continues.
-
If the noise continues, troubleshoot using the DIAGNOSTIC MODE component tests.
-
If the noise is gone after removing the cartridges, printing the Configuration page, and running the component test, insert the cartridges one at a time to verify which cartridge is causing the noise.
note:
It is important that you remove each cartridge before installing the next cartridge to make sure the correct cartridge has been isolated.
-
Cause
The white gears on the print cartridge are not meshing correctly inside the cartridge, or the internal component is frozen.
