HP DeskJet 2130, 2300 Printers - Replacing Ink Cartridges

This document is for HP DeskJet 2130, 2131, 2132, 2134, 2136, 2320, DeskJet Ink Advantage 2134, 2135, 2136, 2138, 2336, 2374, 2375, and 2376 All-in-One printers.

Replace cartridges that are low or out of ink with new, genuine HP cartridges.

Step 1: Load paper

Before you replace the ink cartridges and begin the alignment process, load paper in the printer.

Raise the input tray.

Remove any paper from the input tray that is different than the type of paper you want to load, and then slide the paper width guide as far as possible to the left.

Load a stack of U.S. letter, A4, or legal size paper into the input tray with the short edge forward and the printside facing closest to you. Push the stack into the tray until it stops.

Slide the paper width guide to the right until it rests at the edge of the paper.

Lower the output tray and pull out the output tray extender.

Step 2: Replace the ink cartridges

Replace one or both ink cartridges indicated by the blinking Ink Alert light on the printer control panel:

Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
Lower the output tray, reach inside the printer, grasp the handle, and then lower the ink cartridge access door to open it.

The carriage moves to the center of the printer.

Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
Lightly press down on the ink cartridge to release it, and then pull the ink cartridge out of its slot.

Remove one of the new ink cartridges from its package. Be careful to only touch the black plastic on the ink cartridge.

Remove the plastic tape.

caution:
Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles.Do not replace the protective tape on the contacts. Handling these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electricalconnections.

Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the contacts toward the printer, and then insert the ink cartridge into its proper slot.
- Insert the black ink cartridge into the right slot.
- Insert the tri-color ink cartridge into the left slot.
Slide the new ink cartridge at a slight upward angle into the empty slot, and then gently push the ink cartridge until it snaps into place.

Repeat these steps to install the other ink cartridge, if necessary.
Close the ink cartridge access door.

Step 3: Align the ink cartridges

To achieve the best print quality, it is necessary to align the ink cartridges.

After loading the paper, the printer automatically prints an alignment page.

note:
The printer only prints an alignment page automatically when new ink cartridges are installed.
Lift the scanner lid.
Place the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass.

Close the scanner lid.
Press the Start Copy Black button () or the Start Copy Color button () on the control panel of the printer.

The printer aligns the ink cartridges.

Where can I buy ink cartridges?

Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.

What if my alignment page did not print?

If your printer did not automatically print an alignment page, you can select your operating system to align the ink cartridges from your computer using the HP software.

Windows

Align the ink cartridges in Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista.

Press the Power button to turn on the printer, and then make sure the printer is connected to the computer.
Open or search for the HP folder in your list of installed software programs, click the folder for your printer, and then click the name of your printer.

The HP Print Assistant software opens.
In the HP Printer Assistant window, click Maintain Your Printer.
Click the Device Services tab, and then click Align Ink Cartridges .

The printer prints an alignment page.
Lift the scanner lid.
Place the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass.

On your computer, click Scan. The printer aligns the ink cartridges.

OS X

Align the ink cartridges in OS X v10.11 El Capitan, OS X v10.10 Yosemite, OS X v10.9 Mavericks, or OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion.

In the menu bar, click the Apple icon .
Click System Preferences.
Click Printers and Scanners or Print & Scan.
Click the name of your printer, and then click Open Print Queue.
Click Printer Setup or Settings, click Utility, and then click Open Printer Utility.
Click Align.

The printer prints an alignment page.
Lift the scanner lid.
Place the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass.

On your computer, click Scan. The printer aligns the ink cartridges.
