HP rp5800 Retail System - Removing and Replacing the Primary Hard Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the primary hard drive for the HP rp5800 Retail System.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the primary hard drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Primary hard drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Rotate the drive cage to the up position.
  3. Rotate the power supply to the up position.
  4. Disconnect the data and power cables from the back of the drive.
  5. While pressing on the drive release latch, slide the drive toward the front of the computer until it stops.
  6. Lift the drive up and out of the drive bay.
note:
If the replacement drive does not include guide screws, remove and reuse the screws from this drive.

Primary hard drive replacement

  1. Align the guide screws on the drive with the J-slots in the drive bay and push the drive down into the drive bay.
  2. Slide the drive toward the back of the computer until it locks into place.
  3. Connect the power and data cables to the drive.
  4. Rotate the power supply to the down position.
  5. Rotate the drive cage to the down position.
