Compaq Evo n610c Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Memory Expansion Board

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the memory expansion board for the Compaq Evo n610c Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
Small flat-bladed alignment tool (non-metallic).

The replacement part number will vary depending on the memory expansion board that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Memory expansion board removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Locate the notch in the memory expansion cover.
  3. Insert a non-metallic, flat-bladed tool into the notch and lift the memory expansion cover.
  4. Slide a non-metallic tool along the edge of the memory expansion cover to free it from the top cover.
  5. Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the memory expansion board to the spring tension position.
  6. Grasp the memory expansion board by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  7. Place the memory expansion board in a static dissipative bag.
Memory expansion board replacement
  1. Remove the memory expansion board from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Locate the alignment slot and align it to the empty board receptacle.
  3. Grasp the memory expansion board by the edges and push gently to replace it.
  4. Press the memory expansion board down to latch the arms.
  5. Toe the memory expansion cover into the outside edge of the enclosure.
  6. Press down on the inside edge of the memory expansion cover until it snaps into place.
Memory expansion board installation
  1. Locate the notch in the memory expansion cover.
  2. Insert a non-metallic, flat-bladed tool into the notch and lift the memory expansion cover.
  3. Slide a non-metallic tool along the edge of the memory expansion cover to free it from the top cover.
  4. Remove the memory expansion board from the static dissipative bag.
  5. Locate the alignment slot and align it to the empty board receptacle.
  6. Grasp the memory expansion board by the edges and push gently to replace it.
  7. Press the memory expansion board down to latch the arms.
  8. Toe the memory expansion cover into the outside edge of the enclosure.
  9. Press down on the inside edge of the memory expansion cover until it snaps into place.
Verifying successful repair
Power on the notebook PC and verify whether the BIOS displays the correct memory information on the screen.
