HP Notebook PCs - "BOOTMGR is compressed" Error Message Appears During Startup

When the system file bootmgr is compressed, it cannot be used. Windows is not able to boot without loading the uncompressed version of this file. If you receive an error message that states BOOTMGR is compressed Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart, reset the Windows boot sector from the Microsoft Windows XP operating system installation. To do this, complete the following steps.
  1. Load the Microsoft Windows XP operating system CD/DVD into the optical disk drive. Follow the on-screen instructions by pressing any key to boot from CD.
  2. Go into the XP Recovery Console and select Command Prompt.
  3. Type fixboot and press the Y key to select.
  4. Type exit to leave Command Prompt and restart the computer.
Upon restarting the system, the error message should not appear and the issue should be resolved.
