The Carriage is Stuck for HP Deskjet D2600 Series Printers

Issue
The carriage that holds the cartridges does not move, and the cartridge status lights on the product blink simultaneously. A carriage stall message might also appear on the computer.
Solution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue.
Step one: Turn the printer off and on again
  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.
    If the product does not turn off, skip to Step two: Clear any paper jam.
  2. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
      note:
    The product might go through a warm-up period of up to 2 minutes. Lights might flash and the carriage might move. Wait until the warm-up period is complete before proceeding.
    • If the power light turns on, and is not flashing after the warm up period, click here to skip to Step eight in this document.
    • If the power light does not turn on or is flashing after the warm up period, and the carriage remains stalled, continue with the next step.
  1. Make sure that the product is turned off.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet and from the back of the product.
  3. Remove the rear access door by pressing the handle to the right, and then pulling the door out.

  4. Carefully remove any jammed paper from the back of the product.
  5. Insert the rear access door, and make sure that it is firmly attached.

  6. Open the cartridge door.

  7. Gently pull out any jammed paper from the front of the product.
      caution:
    Remove the paper jam carefully. It is possible to damage the product when removing paper from the front.
  8. Make sure that no scraps of paper are stuck between the rollers.
  9. Close the cartridge door.

  10. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
  11. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
Step three: Make sure that the carriage moves freely
  1. Make sure that the product is turned on.
  2. Open the cartridge door.
      note:
    The carriage that holds the cartridges might try to move into the middle of the product. Allow it to move to that position. If the carriage does not move into the middle, press the Power button () to turn off the product.
  3. Without turning the product off, unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet and then disconnect it from the back of the product.
  4. Remove any obstructions under or around the carriage.
    • If the carriage is stuck on the right side, move the carriage to the left side, check the paper path all the way to the right side, and remove any obstructions along the path.
    • If the carriage is stuck on the left side, move the carriage all the way to the right side, check the paper path all the way to the left side, and remove any obstructions along the path.
    • If the carriage is stuck in the middle, move the carriage all the way to the right side, and remove any obstructions along the path.
        note:
      Obstructions can include paper jams, foreign objects or internal components that have failed inside the product.
  5. Make sure that the carriage moves freely across the width of the product by gently pushing the carriage to the left and to the right.
  6. Close the cartridge door.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the electrical outlet or power strip and to the back of the product.
  8. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
Step four: Remove the cartridges
  1. Make sure that the product is turned on.
  2. Open the cartridge door.
  3. Lightly press down on a cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge out to remove it from its slot.

  4. Repeat these steps for the other cartridge.
      caution:
    Do not leave the cartridges outside the product for more than 30 minutes.
Step five: Reinstall the cartridges
  1. Hold the cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the cartridge back into its slot. Push the cartridge in firmly until it snaps into place.

    • Insert the tri-color cartridge in the slot on the left.
    • Insert the black cartridge in the slot on the right.
  2. Repeat these steps for the other cartridge.
  3. Close the cartridge door.
Plug the product directly into a wall outlet to make sure the power source is functioning correctly.
  1. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors, and then plug it directly into a wall outlet.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
  4. Try printing again.
      note:
    If the product prints when plugged directly into a wall outlet, the power strip or surge protector might not be allowing enough voltage to reach the product.
  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet or surge protector.
  3. Unplug the power cord and the USB cable from the back of the product.
  4. Wait for 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  6. Plug only the power cord back into the product. Do not plug the USB cable back in yet.
  7. Press the Power button () to turn on the product. Wait until the product is idle and silent before proceeding.
  8. Plug the USB cable back into the product.
  1. Make sure that unused, plain, white paper is loaded in the input tray.
  2. Press and hold the Power () button.
  3. Press the Cancel () button.
  4. Release both buttons. The diagnostic page prints.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next step.
Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific.
If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.
Check your product warranty to determine if your product is still under warranty, and then go to Contact HP Support to schedule a repair or replacement.
Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty products.
