HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Switch Cover

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Switch Cover for the HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End-User must possess extensive product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and be familiar with the operating system.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head P0 screwdriver.

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the Switch Cover that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Switch Cover removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the two 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure inside the battery bay.
  3. Remove the two rubber screw plugs from the bottom outside rear corners of the base enclosure.
  4. Remove the two T8-7 mm screws that secure the switch cover to the bottom outside rear corners of the base enclosure.
  5. Remove the T8-7 mm screw that secures the switch cover to the bottom rear edge of the base enclosure.
  6. Turn the notebook right side up and open the display panel fully.
  7. Using minimal force, lift the locking bar to unlock the switch cover ZIF connector on the system board.
    note:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  8. Remove the switch cover ribbon cable from the ZIF connector.
  9. Using minimal force, lift the locking bar to unlock the power button board ZIF connector on the system board.
    note:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  10. Remove the power button board ribbon cable from the ZIF connector.
  11. Lift the ends of the switch cover to disengage it from the top cover and remove.

Switch Cover replacement

note:
Before installing the new switch cover, remove the power button board from the old switch cover and install on the new switch cover.
  1. Place the switch cover into position on the top cover.
  2. Press along the entire length of the switch cover to snap it into place
  3. Insert the power button board ribbon cable into the power button board ZIF connector on the system board.
    note:
    Use care to prevent damaging the power button board ribbon cable.
  4. Push the locking bar down to lock the power button board ZIF connector on the system board.
  5. Insert the switch cover ribbon cable into the switch cover ZIF connector on the system board.
    note:
    Use care to prevent damaging the switch cover ribbon cable.
  6. Push the locking bar down to lock the switch cover ZIF connector on the system board
  7. Close the display panel and turn the notebook upside down.
  8. Replace the T8-7 mm screw that secures the switch cover to the bottom rear edge of the base enclosure.
  9. Replace the two T8-7 mm screws that secure the switch cover to the bottom outside rear corners of the base enclosure.
  10. Replace the two rubber screw plugs on the bottom outside rear corners of the base enclosure.
  11. Replace the two 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure inside the battery bay.
