HP Compaq dc7700 Convertible Minitower PC - Removing and Replacing the USB/audio assembly

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the USB/audio assembly for the HP Compaq dc7700 Convertible Minitower PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
Torx #15 (T-15) screwdriver.
Parts required

The replacement part number will vary depending on the USB/audio assembly that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

USB/audio assembly removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Disconnect the audio and USB cables from the system board.
  3. Remove the two Torx-15 screws that secure the USB/audio bracket to the chassis.
  4. Slide the assembly down and pull it away from the chassis.
  5. Remove the assembly and cables from the chassis.
  6. Remove the two Torx T-15 screws that secure the USB/audio assembly to the bracket and remove the bracket.
USB/audio assembly replacement
  1. Insert the USB/audio assembly into the bracket.
  2. Replace the two screws that secure the assembly to the bracket.
  3. Thread the USB and audio cables through the chassis.
  4. Position the assembly against the chassis and replace the two screws.
  5. Connect the USB and audio cables to the system board.
