HP Color LaserJet CP1215 and CP1217 Printers - Managing Print Cartridges

Introduction

This document contains information about managing print cartridges (supplies).

Cartridge out override

An 'Order Supplies' message displays on the computer when a print cartridge nears the end of its life. A 'Replace Supplies' message displays when the print cartridge is depleted. To make sure of optimal print quality, HP recommends replacing a print cartridge when the 'Replace Supplies' message displays. Print quality problems can occur when using a depleted print cartridge, resulting in wasted paper, and toner from other print cartridges. Replacing a print cartridge when the 'Replace Supplies' message displays can prevent this waste.
The Cartridge out override feature in Toolbox allows the product to continue using a print cartridge that has reached the recommended replacement point.
  warning:
Using Cartridge out override can result in unsatisfactory print quality.
All print defects or supply failures incurred when an HP supply is used in cartridge-out-override mode will not be considered to be defects in materials or workmanship in the supply under the HP Print Cartridge Warranty Statement. For warranty information, see the print cartridge limited warranty statement in this document.
You can start or stop Cartridge out override at any time, and you do not have to restart it when you install a new print cartridge. When Cartridge out override is started, the product automatically continues printing when a print cartridge reaches the recommended replacement level. A 'Replace Supplies Override In Use' message displays while a print cartridge is being used in override mode. When you replace the print cartridge with a new one, the product deactivates Cartridge out override until another print cartridge reaches the recommended replacement level.
Follow these steps to start or stop Cartridge out override.
  1. Open Toolbox.
    • Windows XP: Click Start (), click All Programs, click HP, click your product, and then click HP Color LaserJet CP1210 Series Toolbox.
    • Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, click HP, click your product, and then click HP Color LaserJet CP1210 Series Toolbox.
  2. Click the Device Settings folder, and then click the System Setup page.
  3. Next to Cartridge out override, select On to start the feature. Select Off to stop it.

Print cartridge storage

Follow these guidelines for storing print cartridges.
  • To prevent damage to a print cartridge, do not expose it to light for more than a few minutes.
  • Do not remove the print cartridge from its package until you are ready to use it.
  • Store print cartridges horizontally.
  • Store print cartridges in a dark, dry place away from heat and magnetic sources.

HP policy on non-HP print cartridges

Hewlett-Packard Company cannot recommend the use of non-HP print cartridges, either new or remanufactured.
note:
Any damage caused by a non-HP print cartridge is not covered under the HP warranty and service agreements. For warranty information, see the print cartridge limited warranty statement in this document.

HP fraud hotline and Web site

Go to www.hp.com/go/anticounterfeit if, after you install an HP print cartridge, you experience the following situations.
  • The print cartridge has a high number of problems.
  • The print cartridge does not look like it usually does. For example, the orange pull tab is missing, or the packaging differs from HP packaging.
HP helps determine if the print cartridge is genuine and take steps to resolve the problem.
