HP Designjet 9000s Series - How to Upgrade Firmware

Information
The Firmware upgrade process, on the Designjet 9000 Printer Series, requires some special attention to detail in order for it to succeed.
Details
Firmware Upgrade Process
  1. Download the Firmware file from To down load the Firmware file do as follow:
    1. Select DOWNLOADS, then select HP Designjet Firmware / System maintenance, and choose your HP Designjet 9000s printer from the drop-down list
    2. Sign in with your passport (or SKIP registration)
    3. Find your operating system and left-click to download the Firmware file.
        note:
The file name you get will be something like: DJ9000_FW1_20_10.exe.
  2. Perform the Firmware upgrade on the PC that runs the RIP for your Designjet 9000s printer
      note:
The USB drivers of the HP Designjet 9000s are not available individually on hp.com. The drivers are installed when installing the corresponding RIP. In case a driver is required separately, (i.e. to upgrade the firmware without installing Poster shop or SignEZ), the drivers can be provided on request through HP Technical Support.
  3. Stop the RIP by closing down the application
  4. Disconnect any output devices that are connected to the PC via USB. The printer should be connected directly to the PC by the single USB cable that comes with the printer; a 16 foot (five meter) or shorter cable. USB Input devices, non-USB network and Firewire devices may remain connected to this PC
  5. The printer must be online and media must be loaded as for normal printing
  6. Double-left-click on the Firmware file you downloaded, to extract the archive; you will want to transfer all the files to a known folder/directory. The required files are:
    • EchoFWUpdate.exe
    • ECHOUSB.DLL
    • ECHOUSBENTRY.DLL
    • FWimg.bin
  7. Double-click on EchoFWUpdate.exe to start the update utility. You will see a pop-up like this:
  8. Left-click on the Update (U) button. Another pop-up will appear like this:
At this point, left-click the OK button. The Firmware upgrade starts and the message UPDATING is displayed on the front panel of the printer
  9. When complete, the message Upgrade finished, POWER OFF/ON will display on the printer front panel, and the message Please carry out OFF=>ON of the power switch of the printer is displayed on the PC.
The printer must be turned off and re-started. If the printer incidentally starts performing a printhead wash; when switching off the printer, press and hold the CANCEL and the ON/OFF buttons to turn off the printer, releasing the keys when the message shutting down, please wait is displayed on the front panel
  10. Once the printer has restarted, to check the Firmware version do as follow:
    1. Set the printer OFFLINE
    2. Press the SHIFT key twice
    3. Select SETUP
    4. Select # PRINTER FW VER
