HP Notebook PCs - Upgrade of Easy Access Button Software Fails When Using the Application Recovery CD in Windows XP

Description

When attempting to upgrade the Easy Access Button (EAB) software using the Application Recovery CD (ARCD), the following error message is displayed in a popup box titled "Setup Compaq Software Error."

Solution

EAB software prior to version 3.0 rev B does not properly upgrade over already installed EAB software. To work around the issue above, use the following steps to uninstall "EAB" software in Add/Remove Programs.

Uninstall the Easy Access Button software

Uninstall the EAB software using the following steps:
  1. Click on Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Then click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Select the EAB program to delete and click the Remove button.

Install the latest EAB Software

Install the latest version (3.00 rev. B or later):
