HP Designjet 5000 Series Printers - System Error 'ffff ffff 028xxxxx' or '0f0100 0000xxxx' When Attempting to Print

Introduction

System error "ffff ffff 028xxxxx" or "0f0100 0000xxxx" occurs when attempting to print via a network connection through the HP Jetdirect 610n print server interface card. Follow the steps provided below to resolve the issue.
  1. Turn the printer off and unplug the power cable.
  2. Remove the data cable plugged into the Jetdirect card.
  3. Unscrew and remove the Jetdirect EIO card from the EIO slot located on the back of the printer.
  4. Gently re-install the Jetdirect card back into the printer.
  5. Tighten screws until they are finger tight (do not over tighten).
  6. Plug the data cable back into the Jetdirect card.
  7. Plug the power cable back into the printer and turn the printer on.
  8. Following printer initialization, send a print file through the network to the printer.
  9. If the file prints without error the problem has been solved. Continue with the remaining steps if the error re-occurs.
  10. Ensure the PS Encoding setting is set to Software, not Binary or ASCII. The PS Encoding setting is located in the Printer Menu, Internal RIP Settings, and PS Encoding.
  11. Attempt to verify functionality by sending the printer a file through the network. Continue with the remaining steps if error re-occurs.
  12. Verify the Jetdirect 610n firmware version is L.20.24 or higher. The current firmware version can be checked through the printers front panel, Printer Setup menu, I/O Setup, Card ID, then FW REV = L.XX.XX.
  13. If the firmware is lower than L.20.24, upgrade the Jetdirect firmware. Click here to access detailed information on how to Update Jetdirect firmware.
  14. Following the firmware upgrade, attempt to verify printer functionality by sending a file through the network to the printer.
    note:
The error can be caused by an older version of firmware but may also have other causes. If the HP Jetdirect device's firmware is up-to-date or if the error persists after the upgrade, continue troubleshooting as an I/O communication error.
If the problem persists, contact hp support. Use the information provided in your Users Manual or click here to access hp support via www.hp.com.
