HP Designjet 650C Printer - How to Load and Unload Media

Loading roll media
  1. Ensure the printer wheels are locked to prevent the printer from moving.
  2. Open the roll cover.
  3. Insert the spindle with the large media stop to the right. Push in firmly on both ends. Be sure the media remain flush against the media stop.
  4. Check the leading edge as it unwinds from the spool.
  5. Pull the media up and, holding it from the sides, align the right edge of the media with the perforated line on the entry platen.
  6. Insert the leading edge into the printer until the page buckles slightly. Let go of the media when the printer begins to pull it in.
  7. Press the DOWN arrow to indicate media is being loaded.
  8. Scroll until the display shows the type of medium being loaded (for example, special paper [for color plots], vellum, film, etc.), then press the ENTER button.
  9. When the front panel instructs, raise the media lever.
  10. When the message Pull / Align edges to roll displays, pull the left and right edges of the roll toward you until taut.
  11. Align the left and right edges of the media so they are flush with the left and right edges of the roll. When the front panel instructs, lower the lever.
  12. When the printer instructs to close the roll cover, rewind the media stop to take up any slack in the roll, ensure the leading edge of the media is outside the roll cover.
  13. Close the roll cover.
  14. Press the DOWN arrow to continue. The printer trims off the first few inches of the media.
  15. Select the appropriate plotting mode and print quality desired. When media loading is complete, the message STATUS Ready to plot displays.
Loading sheet media
  1. Ensure the media lever is down and the roll cover is closed.
  2. Holding the media from the sides, align the right edge with the perforated line on the entry platen.
  3. Insert the media until it buckles slightly (let go of the media when the printer begins to pull it in).
  4. Press the UP arrow to indicate sheet media is being loaded.
  5. Scroll until the desired media type is displayed and press the ENTER button.
  6. Select the appropriate plotting mode and print quality desired. The printer pulls the sheet in and out to check its size and alignment, and then advances it to the start of the page.
  7. When sheet loading is complete the message STATUS Ready to plot displays.
Unloading roll media
  1. Lift the media lever to release the media.
  2. Open the roll cover and wind the media back onto the roll.
  3. Close the roll cover.
  4. Lower the media lever.
Unloading sheet media
  1. To remove a plot after the printer's dry time has finished; gently pull the media from the printer.
  2. To remove a plot before the printer's dry time has finished, lift the media lever and carefully remove the sheet so as not to smear ink inside the printer or stain clothing. Lower the lever.
  3. To remove an unplotted sheet, use either step below:
    1. Press the FORM FEED / CUT button, then remove the sheet when the printer is finished feeding it out.
      OR
    2. Lift the media lever, remove the sheet and lower the lever.
