HP Deskjet 450 Series Printer - Driver Uninstall in Windows

Overview
There are four ways to uninstall the HP Deskjet 450 printer driver from a computer. The correct method depends on the way the driver is installed and whether a previous attempt to uninstall failed. The four methods are as follows:
  • Uninstall the printer driver by using the uninstaller located in the HP Deskjet 450 printer program group.
  • Uninstall the printer driver by using the Add/Remove Programs utility in the control panel.
  • Delete the HP Deskjet 450 printer icon(s) from the Printers window.
  • Manually uninstall the printer driver.
Uninstalling the printer driver using the uninstaller
An uninstaller is created if the printer driver is installed from the Starter CD, from floppy disks (created with the Customization Utility on the Starter CD), or from a network location using the driver SETUP.EXE installation software. The uninstaller will remove all files from the computer that were loaded by the installation software during a normal or failed installation. The uninstaller will also remove all entries created for the HP Deskjet 450 printer in the WIN.INI file and registry.
  note:
You must have administrator privileges to uninstall the printer software in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, 2000, or XP.
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove the interface (parallel or USB) cable.
  3. In Windows NT 4.0, 2000, and XP, click Start, Run and type NET STOP SPOOLER and then type NET START SPOOLER. In Windows 95, 98, and Me, restart Windows (click Start, Shut Down, and then Restart).
  4. Make sure no other Windows applications are running by following the steps below:
    1. Right-click any program appearing on the taskbar next to the Start button, and select Close.
    2. Repeat the step above until all the programs appearing in the taskbar are closed.
    3. On the keyboard, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and select Task Manager.
    4. Select the Applications tab and End Task on each item listed.
  5. Click Start, Programs, HP Deskjet 450 printer, and then HP Deskjet 450 printer Uninstaller.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove the printer software.
      note:
If the uninstaller fails to complete successfully, restart Windows, reinstall the printer driver to connect to file (the printer does not need to be physically connected to the LPT1 port), and run the uninstaller again. If the uninstaller still fails to complete successfully, run the Scrubber utility as described in the "Scrubber Utility" section. If necessary, the printer driver can be manually uninstalled by following the steps in the "Manually uninstalling the printer driver" section.
Scrubber utility
If the uninstaller continues to fail, run the Scrubber utility. The Scrubber utility is available for Windows 98/Me and Windows 2000/XP to clean up the registry. Follow the steps below to run the Scrubber.
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. In Windows 98/Me, navigate to the UTILS\SCRUBBER\WIN9X_ME folder on the Starter CD.
In Windows 2000/XP, navigate to the UTILS\SCRUBBER\WIN2K folder on the Starter CD.
  3. In Windows 98/Me, double-click SCRUB9X.EXE.
    In Windows 2000/XP, double-click SCRUB2K.EXE.
After double-clicking SCRUB9X.EXE or SCRUB2K.EXE, the mouse pointer will change to the hourglass or busy state. After the utility completes, the mouse pointer will change back to an arrow.
Uninstalling the printer driver using the Add/Remove Programs utility
Follow the steps below to remove the HP Deskjet 450 printer driver using the Add/Remove Programs utility.
  1. Turn off the printer.

  4. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs utility.
  5. Select HP Deskjet 450 printer Uninstaller and click Add/Remove or Change/Remove, depending on your operating system.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove the printer software.
