Wireless light blinks, Wireless icons display

The Wireless light blinks, and the Wireless icon and Wireless Attention icon display. This occurs when the Wireless setting is on, but the printer cannot find a wireless signal.

Check the connection to the wireless router, and then move the printer closer to the router and try again, if necessary.

The Wireless light and Wireless Attention icon blink, and the Wireless icon displays. This indicates an error occurred when trying to connect to a wireless network.

Press the Cancel button to clear the error.
Press the Wireless and Information buttons at the same time to print a Wireless Network Test Results Page, and then review the page for instructions to solve the issue.

Ink/Printhead light, Alert, Printhead icons blink

The Ink/Printhead light, Alert icon, and one or both Printhead icons blink. This indicates one or both printheads need attention. The dots below the printhead icons indicate which printhead needs attention.

Open the printer front door, and then open the printhead access door.
Wait for the carriage to stop moving, and then open the printhead latch.
Remove the printhead or printheads indicated by the blinking light on the display.
Check for and remove any tape or plugs, and then reinsert the printhead.

CAUTION:
Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, an ink system failure, and a failed electrical connection.
Close the printhead latch, and then close the printer front door.

Resume, Power lights, and A, Alert icons blink

The Resume light, Power light, A icon, and Alert icon blink. This occurs when a printhead alignment failed.

Press the Resume button to reprint the Alignment Page, and then follow the instructions on the page.

The Paper Error icon and Alert icon display, and the Resume light is on. This indicates the printer is out of paper.

Load paper into the input tray. Go to Loading Paper, Envelopes for more information.

The Paper Error icon, Alert icon, and Resume light blink. This indicates the printer is out of paper after sending a print job.

Load paper into the input tray, make sure the paper matches the print settings, and then press the Resume button to continue the print job. Go to Loading Paper, Envelopes for more information.

CMYK icons display, Ink icons blink

The CMYK icons display, and one or more Ink icons blink, indicating one or more tanks are low on ink. If the Ink/Printhead light is on, the ink levels are very low.

Refill the ink tank indicated by the blinking Ink icon. Go to HP Smart Tank 500, 600 - Refill the ink tanks for more information.

E1 or E2 error

An E1 or E2 error with a blinking Resume light indicates the paper size setting does not match the paper size that is loaded.

Load the correct size paper or change the print settings, and then press the Cancel button . Go to HP Printers - Paper Mismatch error (Windows, Mac) for more information.

E3 or E4 error

An E3 error with a blinking Ink/Printhead light and Resume light or an E4 error with a blinking Resume light indicates a carriage or paper jam.

Note:

When checking inside the printer for jams, do not open the printhead latch. Before checking for jams underneath the printer, make sure the ink tank caps are secure, and do not tilt the printer for longer than necessary to clear the jam.

Find and clear the paper jam, and then press the Resume button to continue the print job. If the issue persists, go to HP Smart Tank 500 Printers - 'E3' Error (Carriage Jam) or HP Smart Tank 500 Printers - 'E4' Error (Paper Jam) for more information.

E5 error

An E5 error indicates a scanner error.

Restart the printer, and then scan again. If the issue persists, service the printer.

E6 error

An E6 error indicates the printer is in an error state. Reset the printer.

With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Wait 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord to the printer, and then plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet.

E7 error

An E7 error with the CMYK icons displaying and the Alert icon, Ink/Printhead light, and one or more of the Ink icons blinking indicates one or more of the ink tanks are empty.

Refill the ink tank indicated by the Ink icon: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, or Black. Go to HP Smart Tank 500, 600 - Refill the ink tanks for more information.

Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.
