HP+ LaserJet printers - Registration and setup errors or printing stops

The printer fails during setup or registration, or the printer prints some pages then stops. The Attention or Information light flashes, and one of the following error messages might display in the HP Smart app.

  • Printer Setup Incomplete

  • Check Your Account

  • Printer Cannot Print

  • Unable to register the printer to your account

  • We're sorry, something went wrong

This document applies to HP LaserJet M109e-M112e, M207e-M212e, MFP M139e-142e, and MFP M232e-M237e printers.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Determine which error code displays

If you see one of the following errors during the HP+ printer setup, determine which error message you are seeing, and then finish the printer setup.

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

    Note:

HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

  5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Make sure the printer Wi-Fi is on

On the printer control panel, check the Wi-Fi light to make sure the printer is connected to the internet.

  • If the light is solid blue, the printer is connected to the internet. Skip to Check the printer status with the HP Smart app.

  • If the wireless light is blinking blue or off, the printer is not connected to the internet.

    1. If the light is off, press the Wi-Fi button on the control panel to turn it on, and then wait about a minute.

    2. Open the HP Smart app, click the plus sign , and then follow the prompts to setup your printer.

    3. If the app cannot find the printer, continue to the next step to restore wireless setup mode.

Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer

Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again.

When you turn on your printer for the first time, Wi-Fi setup mode is automatically turned on so the printer can be discovered during setup. For security reasons, Wi-Fi setup mode turns off after two hours.

Check the printer status with the HP Smart app

Use the HP Smart app to check the printer connection status.

  1. After the printer restarts, wait up to two minutes to allow the printer enough time to reconnect to the app.

  2. Open the HP Smart app, and then check the status next to the printer icon.

    • If Ready displays, the issue is resolved. You can now use your printer.

Example of Ready displaying next to an HP LaserJet M139-M142 printer
    • If Finish Set Up displays, select it, click Continue, and then follow the prompts. If the setup fails again, skip to the next step.

    • If Printer Error or Printer Setup Incomplete displays, continue to the next step.

Check the printer dashboard on your HP Smart website account

Determine which printer dashboard displays on your HP Smart website account.

  1. Go to the HP Smart website.

  2. On the top-right corner, click Sign in.

  3. Type your username, and then click Next.

  4. Type your password, and then click Sign in.

  5. Determine which dashboard displays for your printer.

    • If the orange HP+ banner dashboard displays, skip to Restore factory defaults.
