OMEN X by HP Compact Desktop VR Backpack - Setting Up the VR Backpack

Set up and use the OMEN X by HP Compact Desktop VR Backpack, including first time setup, putting on the harness, and replacing the batteries without shutting down the computer.

Charge the computer and external batteries

Charge the computer by inserting it into the docking station, and then charge the external batteries.

  1. Connect the power adapter to the rear of the docking station, connect the power cord to the power adapter, and then plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

  3. After you secure the computer, review the LED lights on the docking station to identify the status of the internal battery.

    • White light on: The computer is secure and the internal battery is charged.

    • Amber light on: The computer is secure and the internal battery is charging.

    • Lights off: The computer is not secure or the power is not connected to the docking station.

  4. Wait for the battery to fully charge before using the computer for the first time.

  5. After the battery is fully charged, turn on the computer while it is in the docking station.

  6. Review the LED light of the Power button to identify the status of the computer.

    • Power light is on and red: The computer is on.

    • Power light is pulsing and red: The computer is in sleep mode and inactive.

    • Power light is off: The computer is off.

  7. To undock the computer from the docking station, press the Eject button, and then remove the computer.

  8. Insert the two external batteries into the external battery charger.

  9. Disconnect the power adapter from the rear of the docking station, connect the power adapter to the rear of the battery charger, and then plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.

  10. Review the LED lights on the batteries to identify the status of the batteries.

    • Four lights on: The battery is more than 95% charged.

    • Three lights on: The battery is more than 75% charged.

    • Two lights on: The battery is more than 50% charged.

    • One light on: The battery is more than 25% charged.

Attach the computer to the harness

Attach the computer to the harness, insert the external batteries, and then connect the computer to a virtual reality (VR) headset.

  1. Insert the computer into the harness, and then lock the release button.

  2. Attach the right side battery holder to the computer, and then insert the external battery into the battery holder. Repeat this step for the left side battery holder and external battery.

  3. Connect a VR headset to the computer.

  4. Turn on the computer.

  5. Place the harness on your back, and then fasten the clips and adjust the straps to hold the harness in place.

Change the external batteries

Replace the external batteries without turning off the computer.

  1. Disconnect the right side battery holder from the computer, and then remove the external battery from the battery holder. Repeat this step for the left side battery holder and external battery.

  2. Insert a fresh battery in the right and left side battery holders, and then reconnect each battery holder to the computer.

  3. Insert the two depleted batteries into the external battery charger.

Remove the computer from the harness

Remove the computer from the harness, and then insert the computer into the docking station when not in use.

  1. Disconnect any attached devices (such as the VR headset), unfasten the clips, and then remove the harness from your back.

  2. On the harness, press the release button to remove the computer.

Why does the computer restart continuously after overclocking the CPU?

If after overclocking, the computer does not start into the operating system and restarts repeatedly after displaying the HP logo screen, load the BIOS default settings for your computer.

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer, and then immediately press F10 to open the BIOS Setup utility.

  3. Press F9 to load the BIOS default settings.

  4. Save the changes, and then exit from the BIOS Setup utility.

    The computer should start normally.

How do I change the lighting on the PC?

Use the OMEN Command Center to change the lighting on the computer.

Light options vary by computer. Go to HP OMEN Command Center for more information.

  1. Open the OMEN Command Center.

  2. Select Lighting, and then select a part of the computer to change such as the keyboard or exterior, if the option displays.

  3. Under Mode, select a lighting sequence.

    • Static color: Choose a single, static color scheme and brightness for each zone.

    • Color loop: Configure the lights to cycle through a customizable color scheme.

    • System vitals: Configure the lights to change colors based upon system usage and temperature.

    • Audio pulse: Configure the lights to change based upon audio output.

    • Keyboard Animation: Select an animation effect for the keyboard. Effect options vary.

    • Keyboard zone lighting: Configure the lighting for zones on your keyboard.

    • Off: Turn off the lights.

Where is the serial number on the computer?

The serial number is located on the service label on the rear of the computer. The label also contains the product number and model number.

What if the computer does not turn on?

There is a safety feature that prevents the computer from being turned on accidentally during shipping. The computer must be in the docking station and using AC power when you turn on the computer for the first time. Make sure the computer is firmly inserted into the docking station, and then check the connections between the power adapter, power cord, and docking station to make sure they are securely connected.

How do I improve the performance of the PC?

Use the OMEN Command Center to change the performance mode of the computer.

  1. Open the OMEN Command Center.

  2. Select Performance control, and then select a mode that works best for the task you are performing.

    • Comfort mode: Lowers the CPU and GPU temperatures, making it suitable for casual tasks and keeping the computer cooler when needed.

    • Performance mode: Optimizes gaming performance by dynamically allocating power between the CPU and GPU.

      Note:

      Performance mode might increase heat and noise levels.
