HP LaserJet Pro M118dw Printers - First Time Printer Setup

This document is for HP LaserJet Pro M118dw printers.
To set up a printer for the first time, remove the printer and all packing materials from the box, load paper into the input tray, connect the power cable, remove the protective film from the control panel, and then download and install the printer software.
note:

Step 1: Remove the printer from the box

Remove the printer from the box and all tape, stickers, and packing materials from the printer.
The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.
note:
The toner cartridge comes preinstalled in your printer. You do not need to remove the toner cartridge from the printer.
  1. Remove the printer from the box.
  2. Remove all tape and packing materials from the outside of the printer, and then remove the protective film from the printer control panel.
  3. Recycle the packing materials.

Step 2: Load paper into the main input tray

Load plain paper in the main input tray.

  2. Adjust the paper-width guides using the adjustment latch on the right guide.

  4. Load up to 250 sheets of paper with the print side facing up and the top edge toward the printer. If you are loading pre-punched paper, load the paper with the holes toward the left side of the tray.

  5. Slide in the paper guides until they touch the edge of the stack of paper.
    Do not push in the guides so tightly that they bind against the paper.

  6. Close the main input tray door if you loaded A4 or U.S. letter-size paper. If you loaded U.S. legal-size or larger paper, do not close the main input tray door.

Step 3: Connect the power cord, and then turn on the printer

Plug the printer into a wall outlet, and then turn on the printer.
note:
Do not connect a USB cable at this time. The connection to the computer is established during software installation.
  1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

  2. Turn on the printer.
    The printer initializes and then calibrates itself.
  3. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
    Your HP printer hardware is now set up and you can install the printing software.

Step 4: Install the printer software

Download the latest version of the printing software from 123.hp.com/laserjet, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
