HP Scitex FB5x0 and FB7x0 Printers - Using the EWS to access printer log files

The printer maintains a continuous log of its operations and settings in plain text files, which it stores on its internal hard disk drive. These files are useful for troubleshooting and may be requested by an authorized HP service provider or by the regional HP Customer Care Center.
The files are accessible through the Embedded Web Server (EWS), a built-in feature of the HP Scitex FB5x0 and FB7x0.
To connect to the Embedded Web Server, open a web browser on any computer connected to the same network as the printer and enter the printer's IP address into the address bar of the browser (e.g., http://192.168.0.1, where "192.168.0.1" is replaced by the printer's actual IP address). The printer's IP address is displayed on the System screen of the printer's control panel.
When the browser connects to the printer, the Embedded Web Server displays its home page.
The EWS home page is divided into two panels, a navigation panel on the left and a display panel on the right (See Fig. 1).

From the list of links in the navigation panel, click on "Get Printer Events Files".
The Log File Page loads in the display panel. There are two columns of files shown: on the left, "PrintCare" or "Daily Events" files, and on the right, the true System Log files. There is also a third item by itself at the lower right called the "Other Event Files” (See Fig. 2).

3 - InfoSettingsFile.txt and FB500FB700Support.zip or FB550FB750Support.zip
From the list of files, click the link to the file to be viewed or saved to the local computer.
Depending on how the web browser and computer are configured, the log file will either be displayed in the browser, or will be saved to the local computer to be opened by a helper application.
If a file displays in the browser window and that file has been requested by an HP authorized service provider or the HP Customer Care Center, it can be saved to a local computer and then sent by e-mail. Depending on the web browser in use, do the following:
  • Internet Explorer or Safari: File menu > "Save As"
  • Firefox: File menu > "Save Page As"
Save the file with an identifiable name, ideally the type of file (Daily Events or System Log or InfoSettingsFile) and the date of the log. The file save dialog box will also have a drop-down menu for "Save as type". The options for "Save as type" vary by the browser in use. The log files are in plain text (txt); the Daily Events files are comma-separated values (csv), and the FB5x0FB7x0Support is a compressed file with ZIP extension which includes all the log files, the InfoSettingsFile and other important files.
note:
Whatever file type is selected, HP recommends that the saved file be opened to verify that it is still readable. Some formats saved by some browsers on some operating systems have produced files that are missing all the original line breaks, resulting in page after page of uninterrupted text. If a file is received in such a condition, it may delay the response to the issue. If the initial file type selection proves to be unreadable when opened, repeat the process and save as a different choice.
