HP Scanjet Sheet feed Scanners - Fix paper jams

Introduction
This document provides instructions on how to fix paper jams for HP Scanjet Sheet-feed Scanners.
Some of the causes for paper jams in a scanner are the following:
  • Overloading of pages in the input or output tray.
  • The document feeder is not closed properly.
  • Misalignment of paper.
  • Scanning damp or wet pages.
  • The need to clean or replace the rollers.
The procedure in this document applies to the following list of HP Scanjet Sheet-feed Scanners:
  • HP Scanjet Professional 3000 Sheet-feed Scanner
  • HP Scanjet Pro 3000 s2 Sheet-feed Scanner
  • HP Scanjet 5000 Sheet-feed Scanner
  • HP Scanjet Enterprise Flow 5000 s2 Sheet-feed Scanner
  • HP Scanjet Enterprise Flow 5000 s3 Sheet-feed Scanner
  • HP Scanjet 7000 Sheet-feed Scanner

Step 1: Open the document feeder hatch
Follow these steps to open the document feeder hatch:
  1. Remove any paper from the document input tray.
  2. Turn off the scanner.
  3. Locate the document feeder latch and pull it forward to open the document feeder hatch.
Step 2: Clear the paper path
Follow these steps to clear the paper path:
  1. Remove any paper or obstructions from the paper path.

  2. Remove any visible debris, such as, pieces of paper, staples, or paper clips.
  3. Close the document feeder hatch until it clicks into place.
      note:
    The click sound indicates that the document feeder hatch is closed properly.
Step 3: Resume scanning
  note:
To scan using the HP Smart Document Scan Software after clearing a paper jam, refer to the steps in your User Guide.
If the scan software is not available, follow these steps to resume scanning all the documents:
  1. Make sure to use the USB cable that came with the scanner to connect the computer and the scanner.
  2. Turn on the scanner.
  3. Align the documents, and then load the documents into the document input tray.
  4. Adjust the paper guides to fit the edges of the document.
      note:
    Do not push the guides in so tightly that they bend the documents and restrict paper feeding.
  5. Press the appropriate scan button ( ) ( ) for scanning.
