Answer/Solution
The HP Scitex FB500, FB700, FB950, FB910, and HP Designjet H-series, and the ColorSpan Legacy UV Printers, all use an air vacuum (negative pressure) system to maintain ink in the printheads. Ink is delivered to the on-carriage reservoirs by opaque tubing, and air vacuum is applied to the printheads by clear or semi-transparent tubing. When operating normally, ink remains only in the reservoirs for delivery to the printheads.

In some situations, usually due to an underlying problem with another printer component, the ink in the reservoir(s) migrates into the air tubes. This event is known as an "overfill". If this problem goes undetected and unchecked, eventually the ink can travel up the air tubes and into the air valve & manifold assembly and possibly even further into the air system, causing those components be contaminated with ink and rendering them unusable. An expensive repair is required to restore operation.

To prevent such collateral damage due to an overfill event from occurring, each air tube assembly includes an ink-blocking "filter", i.e., a device that is normally permeable to air but impermeable to ink. If overfill does occur and ink travels into the air tubes, the filter will stop the progress of the ink before it reaches the susceptible components of the air system. When the ink contacts the filter, the filter is no longer air-permeable, and the operation of the air vacuum system is disrupted. The observable effect is the printheads of the affected color begin to drip ink. This observable symptom is typically what alerts the operator to overfill, having occurred.
There are three versions of the ink-blocking air tube assembly, which are each specific to a particular printhead and carriage architecture. The three architectures and tube assemblies are described in Table 1.

Air filter - For use in any location where an air filter is used (inside Vacuum Pressure (VP), inline vacuum tube, ink-blocking filter). Short Tygon tubing to a single ink-blocking filter; A Luer-lock connector connects the filter to a long Tygon tube; the Tygon tube connects to the left-slave (#1 of each set of 4) printhead reservoir only. Depending on reservoir type, the tube either presses directly onto a barbed fitting on the reservoir, or connects via a Luer-lock connector.
No single part number obtains the complete assembly as described to the left. The ink-blocking filter only is orderable by CH971-91421

Additional information for FB910 and ColorSpan Legacy UVR-UVX printers
As noted in Table 1, there is no complete replacement tube and filter assembly that can be ordered for FB910 or UVR-UVX printers, only the ink-blocking filter itself. In the event that replacement of the tubes and/or fittings is desired or required, Table 2 shows part numbers that may be used to obtain these components separately.
