HP Notebook PCs - Increasing or Decreasing the Volume Distorts the Audio (Windows 8)

Audio distortion may occur when increasing or decreasing the volume.
The system sound file "Windows Background.wav" is causing the audio distortion. To resolve this issue, change the audio system sound effect to a different .wav file.
To change the .wav file, complete the following procedure:
  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Click HardwareandSound.
  3. Click Changesystemsounds.
  4. Click the Sounds tab. Select DefaultBeep. Select a new .wav file from the drop-down list.

  5. Click Apply. Click OK.
