HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One Printer Series (C311) - Unable to Connect to a Wireless Network When Using WEP Encryption and Shared Key Authentication

Issue

When you attempt to connect wirelessly to a network with WEP encryption and Shared Key Authentication, the product fails to connect.

Solution

Important: You must follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.

Step one: Open your router's configuration utility

Use one of the following methods to open your router's configuration utility.

Step two: Configure your network settings

The following steps might vary depending on your router’s manufacturer. Use the following steps as a guide to configure your network settings.
note:
HP recommends that you secure your network with WPA or WPA2 wireless security, if your router and network devices support it.
  1. Locate the wireless configuration settings using the router’s configuration utility.
  2. Locate the router’s Authentication Type settings, and then change the Authentication type to Auto or Open.
  3. Click Save, and then close the configuration utility.

Step three: Restore the network default settings for your product

Follow these steps to restore the network default settings for your product.
  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product, if it is not already on.
  2. On the control panel, touch the Wireless icon ().
  3. Touch Settings.
  4. Touch and then slide your finger up on the display to scroll to Restore Network Defaults.
  5. Touch Restore Network Defaults.
  6. Touch Yes to confirm your selection.

Step four: Connect to the wireless network

Follow these steps to connect your product to the wireless network.
IMPORTANT: You might need to reconfigure network devices that were connected to the previous network setup.
  1. On the control panel, touch the Wireless icon ().
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard.
    The Wireless Setup Wizard searches for networks, and then displays them in a list.
  4. Touch the name of your network.
    note:
    The product wireless setup wizard provides instructions to configure the wireless connection. Follow the instructions on the product control panel, or continue with the following steps.
    If the list of available networks does not include your network, use the following steps to add your network manually:
    1. Touch Enter New Network Name.
    2. Enter your network name using the product control panel, and then touch Done.
      note:
      Make sure that you touch the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters exactly. Otherwise, the wireless connection will fail to connect.
      If the product does not find the network, the product provides an option to use the network anyway. This option allows you to try troubleshooting the wireless network later.
    3. Touch Infrastructure.
    4. Touch Encryption Type.
  5. If prompted, enter the security key (WEP or WPA), and then touch Done.
    note:
    Make sure that you touch the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters exactly. Otherwise, the wireless connection will fail to connect.
  6. Make sure that the product successfully connects to the network before you continue to the next step.
    note:
    If a connection error message displays, make sure that the network name and security key are correct, and then follow the prompts to enter the information again.
  7. When the product successfully connects to the wireless network, touch Test Report to print the Wireless Network Test Report.
