HP Scanjet G3110 Photo Scanner - Scanned Images with Blue Tint

Issue

Scanned images appear with blue background when scanned in color.

Solution

This document explain probable causes and workaround to minimize blue tint in scanned images.
  • Loosely fit scanner lid can produce images with gray or blur background. Make sure that the lid is seating firmly.
  • Some of the papers available in the market are so bright that they actually contain some amount of blue or pink tint instead of neutral white. They also can produce tinted images.
  • Scanners that cannot produce enough light or having faulty scanner carriage will produce dull and tinted images. Replacement is the only option in this case.
If all looks normal and still images coming with blue tint, follow the below steps:
  1. Enable preview option in HP scanning software (solution center version 13 used in this case). During preview select "Lighten/Darken" and Manual as shown in the image to adjust brightness and contrast so that image can be edited to satisfactory level without losing data.
    Shadows - Adjust the value represented in the image as white. A higher value increase detail in light areas.
    Midtones - Lighten or darken the middle values in the image.
    Gamma - Optimize the contrast and brightness of the midtone values.
    Highlights - Adjust the value represented in the image as white. A higher value increase detail in light areas.
  2. Select "Adjust color" to manipulate in achieving color balance. User can change the following settings.
    Enhanced color - Optimize saturation to make the image's color appear more vivid or intense .
    Optimize Values - Allow the software to determine the best color values .
    Select "Manual" setting and move the small circle to a position where satisfactory colors are obtained.

This is only workaround and if image quality issue still persist, contact HP support.
