HP ProBook 4410s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Switch cover

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Switch cover for the HP ProBook 4410s Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P000, P00 and P1) screwdrivers.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Switch cover that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

note:

If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Modified Spare number, the Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part. In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Switch cover removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the two 3mm P1 Phillips broad head screws in the battery bay that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
  3. Remove the two Phillips-head screws in the rear of the battery bay that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
    note:
    The video shows a preproduction model of the notebook. The final version of the notebook will include these screws.
  4. Remove the two 3mm P00 Phillips-head screws from the rear panel that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
  5. Turn the notebook right side up and open the display fully.
  6. Slide the switch cover toward the rear of the notebook.
  7. Remove the switch cover from the base enclosure.

Switch cover replacement

  1. Place the switch cover onto the base enclosure.
  2. Align the sides, hinge cut outs, and toes with the sides, hinges, and slots of the base enclosure.
  3. Press down on the switch cover and slide it toward the center of the notebook.
  4. Close the display and turn the notebook upside down.
    note:
    Ensure that the four tabs on the rear edge of the switch cover are properly seated in their respective notches in the battery bay.
  5. Replace the two 3mm P00 Phillips-head screws into the rear panel that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
  6. Replace the two Phillips-head screws into the rear of the battery bay that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
    note:

  7. Replace the two 3mm P1 Phillips broad head screws into the battery bay that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
