HP Designjet 10ps and 20ps Printers - Creating Custom Page Sizes in FreeHand and Quark for Windows and Macintosh
Information
FreeHand 8 for Windows
Unlike other applications, FreeHand 8 does not use the PostScript (R) driver at all. Therefore any settings in the property pages supplied by the driver have no effect at all.
To create the custom page:
-
Go to Modify, Document, and then Add a custom page size to the document using the untitled dialog box.
-
Ignore File , Printer Setup and the corresponding Print Setup dialog box. It has no effect on the page size.
-
Select File, and then Print
-
Check Use PPD and select the PPD using the adjacent button. Typically the PPD is installed in: C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpdj20ps.ppd
-
Click Setup. Bring Page Setup tab on top and select custom page size. Enter the page dimensions in the corresponding fields. Click OK
-
Click OK to print.
FreeHand 9 and 10 for Macintosh
FreeHand 9 and FreeHand 10 generate part of the PostScript code without the help of the PostScript driver. However, these two versions of FreeHand call the driver to generate the standard setup section. So the page size is set twice: first by the driver and later by FreeHand. The page size set by the driver has no effect unless it triggers page device errors.
To be safe the user needs to set the page size in both places: the driver and FreeHand.
To create a custom page size:
-
Create a new document as File, New
-
Open an untitled dialog box as Window, Inspectors, Document, and select the Document tab.
-
Select custom page size and enter x and y values. Press ENTER. Watch the changed document size on the screen.
-
Select File, Page Setup dialog. Choose Custom Page Sizes entry in the list box. Press NEW button and create a custom page size. Select this size page. The page size selected here has limited effect. If it is not correct it can trigger PostScript errors but it does not have other effects.
-
Select File, Print.
-
Check Use PPD and select the PPD using the adjacent button. The PPD is installed typically in Hard Disk Name:System Folder:Extensions:hpdj10ps.ppd (or hpdj20ps.ppd for the HP Designjet 20ps)
-
Press Setup. Bring Page Setup tab on top and select custom page size. Enter the page dimensions in the corresponding fields. Click OK
-
Click OK to print.
The custom page setup in PC is very similar to the one in Mac.
