HP 4500, 4600 Inkjet Printers - First Time Printer Setup

This document is for the following printers:
  • HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4535, 4536, 4538, 4675, 4676, and 4678 All-in-One printers
  • HP ENVY 4510 (series), 4511, 4512, 4513, 4516, 4520, 4521, 4522, 4523, 4524, 4525, 4526, 4527, and 4528 All-in-One printers
  • HP OfficeJet 4650, 4652, 4654, 4655, 4656, 4657, and 4658 All-in-One printers
To set up a printer for the first time, remove the printer and all packing materials from the box, connect the power cable, set control panel preferences, load paper into the input tray, install the ink cartridges, and then install the software.

Step 1: Remove the printer from the box

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.
Remove the printer from the box and all tape, stickers, and packing materials from the printer.
  1. Remove the printer from the box.
  2. Remove all tape and packing materials from the outside of the printer.

  3. Remove the sticker on the printer control panel.
  4. Gently grasp the handles on either side of the printer, raise the ink cartridge access door until it locks into place, and then remove all tape and packing material from inside the printer.

  5. Close the ink cartridge access door.

  6. Open the input tray door, pull it toward you to extend the paper tray, and then remove the packing tape.

  7. Push the input tray forward until it clicks into place to close the input tray door.

  8. Recycle the packing materials.

Step 2: Connect the power cord and set your preferences

Plug the printer into a power source, turn on the printer, and then set your preferences.
megjegyzés:
Do not connect a USB cable at this time. The connection to the computer is established during software installation.
  1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

  2. Turn on the printer.
  3. To set your preferences on the printer control panel, touch your preferred language and country/region, and then touch Yes to confirm your choice.
  4. If prompted, select the date and time, and then touch Yes to confirm your choice.

Step 3: Load paper into the input tray

Load plain U.S. letter or A4 paper in the input tray.
  1. Open the input tray door, then pull it toward you to extend the paper tray.

  2. Slide the paper width guides to their outermost position.

  3. Load a stack of U.S. letter, or A4 size paper into the paper tray with the short edge forward and the print side down.

  4. Push the stack into the tray until it stops.
  5. Slide in the paper width guides in until they rest against the edges of the paper, then push the input tray forward until it clicks into place.

Step 4: Install the ink cartridges

Install the HP ink cartridges that shipped in the box with your printer.
  1. Raise the ink cartridge access door until it locks into place.
    The carriage moves slightly to the left.

  2. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.
  3. Remove one of the ink cartridges from its package. Be careful to only touch the black plastic on the ink cartridge.

  4. Remove the plastic tape from the ink cartridge.

    Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Do not replace the protective tape on the contacts. Handling these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  5. Lift up the lid on the ink cartridge slot.

  6. Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the printer, and then press the ink cartridge forward into the slot until it snaps into place.

  7. Close the lid on the ink cartridge slot to secure the ink cartridge into place.

  8. Repeat the previous steps to install the other ink cartridge.

    1. Insert the ink cartridge
    2. Close the lid
    3. The color ink cartridge is on the left, and the black ink cartridge is on the right
  9. Close the ink cartridge access door.
    • If the printer prints an alignment page, continue to the next step.
    • If the printer does not print an alignment page, touch Setup on the printer control panel. Select Tools, and then touch Align Printer. After the alignment page prints, continue to the next step.

Step 5: Align the ink cartridges

Aligning the ink cartridges is necessary to achieve the best print quality. Use the alignment page from the previous step to align the ink cartridges.
  1. Lift the scanner lid.
  2. Place the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass. Position it according to the engraved guides around the glass.

  3. Close the scanner lid, and then touch OK on the printer control panel.
    The printer aligns the ink cartridges.

Step 6: Install the printer software

Your HP printer hardware is now set up, and you can install the printing software. Do not attempt to connect the printer to a computer until instructed to do so in the printing software.
Download the latest version of the printing software. Go to 123.hp.com, type your printer model number, click Begin, and then click Download.
