Every HP Enterprise printer has LEDs in the formatter board to identify and troubleshoot problems.

  • Connectivity LED - indicates installation accuracy

    Note:

Present only on formatters that are customer-replaceable. Formatters replaced by a service technician will not have a Connectivity LED.

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the cable to the port.

  2. In the Network Settings Menu, verify the link settings and make sure that the port is enabled.

Heartbeat LED

The heartbeat LED indicates whether or not the formatter is functioning correctly. While the product is initializing after it is turned on, the LED is green and blinks rapidly, and then turns off. When the product has finished the initialization sequence, the heartbeat LED is green and pulses on and off. If the LED is red or amber, this is an indication that something is wrong.

The following provides information about product operation and formatter health.

A solid green light is lit during product start up.

Normal status. No action required.

Heartbeat LED blinking green

A slow blinking green light indicates normal operation/sleep mode.

  1. Remove and reinsert the control panel cable at both ends.

  2. Check (and replace, if necessary) the control panel, connection cable, and the formatter.

Heartbeat LED solid amber

A solid amber light indicates that the flat-flexible cable (FFC) between the formatter and the DC controller is not connected, or it is damaged.

Note:

This does not apply to formatters that are customer-replaceable.

Check, and if necessary, replace the formatter to DC flat-flexible cable (FFC).

Note:

This action should be performed only by a service technician.

Heartbeat LED solid red

A solid red light indicates a formatter failure.

  1. Remove and then reinstall the formatter to verify that it is installed correctly.

  2. Check (and replace, if necessary) the fax card and/or memory DIMM (if present).

If the error persists, replace the formatter.

Heartbeat LED no lights on

No lights on indicates one of the following issues:

  • No power

  • Firmware or system freeze

  1. Check the power cable and source, and then turn on the printer.

  2. Watch the Heartbeat LED for activity during the boot process.

If the heartbeat LED remains off, check the front panel for any error messages. If you are unable to clear the error message, then upgrade the printer firmware.

For steps on upgrading the firmware, refer to the following document:
