HP Printers - 'Scan to computer is no longer activated' displays (ScanToPCActivationApp)

This document is for HP inkjet printers with built-in scanners and computers with Windows.
One of the following errors displays in Windows:
  • ScanToPCActivationApp.exe application error
  • Scan to computer is no longer activated
To prevent the error from opening, either disable the control panel scan button, or install and use HP Smart.
note:
If the printer is also having problems with wireless print, then the issue is most likely a connection problem. Reconnect the printer to your network. For more information, go to HP Printers - Connecting to a Wireless HP Printer.

Disable Control Panel scan button functionality

Disable the scan button on the printer control panel using Windows Task Manager.
  1. In Windows, search for and open Task Manager, and then click Startup.
  2. Select ScanToPCActivationApp, and then click Disable.
  3. Restart the computer.

Uninstall HP Printer Assistant and install HP Smart

Uninstall HP Printer Assistant from your Windows system and install HP Smart.
  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel, click Uninstall a program, and then uninstall HP Printer Assistant.
  2. Download and install HP Smart from 123.hp.com. For more information, go to HP Printers – Install and Use the HP Smart App (Windows 10).
