HP Business PCs - A Yellow Triangle Warning Appears on the C Drive in File Explorer

DESCRIPTION
A yellow triangle with exclamation mark is displayed on the C: drive in File Explorer. This is due to automatic device encryption not being enabled. The issue occurs if a user creates and logs on using a local account during the initial set up (out-of-box) of the computer.

RESOLUTION
HP and Microsoft recommend enabling encryption on any systems that support encryption. Use one of the following options to correct the issue.
Option 1: Log on using an MSA or AAD account to enable the automatic device encryption feature:
  1. Click Start, then select Settings (gear icon).
  2. Select System.
  3. Select About My PC under the message: You need a Microsoft account to finish encrypting this device.
  4. Click Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the encryption.
Option 2: Manually encrypt the drive
Enable BitLocker with the local account and store the encryption recovery key as a file on a USB device
OR
Join the computer to an Active Directory domain and enable Bitlocker.
Option 3: Modify the registry to prevent automatic device encryption (not recommended)
  caution:
Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Before you modify the registry, make sure to back it up and make sure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs.. If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. HP cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly.
  1. Open REGEDIT.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BitLocker.
  3. Right-click PreventDeviceEncryption.
  4. Select Modify.
  5. Change the Value data to 1.
  6. Click OK.
    note:
    this option will remove the yellow triangle warning, but the drive will not be encrypted and HP recommends encrypting the drive.
Option 4: Ignore the warning ( NOT recommended)
There will be no impact on the computer performance or reliability, but the drive will not be encrypted.
