HP Color LaserJet Pro M180 Printers - Loading Paper, Envelopes

This document is for HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180n, M180nw, and M181fw printers.

This document provides instructions for loading plain paper and envelopes into the printer.

caution:
Never load multiple types of paper in the input tray. Load one type of paper at a time, and never load paper while the printer is printing.

Load plain paper

Load plain paper, such as A4, U.S. letter, or legal, into the input tray.

Pull out the input tray, and then slide out the paper width guides as far as possible. When you are loading legal-size paper, extend the input tray.

Load up to 150 sheets of paper with the print side facing up and the top edge toward the printer. If you are loading pre-punched paper, load the paper with the holes toward the left side of the tray.

Slide in the paper guides until they touch the edges of the stack of paper.

Close the input tray.
Press down on the output bin extension to open it, and then lower the output bin extender.

Before printing or copying, select the correct paper size and paper type settings.

Load envelopes

Load envelopes into the input tray.

Envelope guidelines

Refer to the following guidelines to make sure the envelopes print successfully.

Do not use envelopes with clasps, snaps, windows, coated linings, self-stick adhesives, or other synthetic materials that are susceptible to heat.
Do not use envelopes that are wrinkled, nicked, stuck together, or otherwise damaged.
If you use envelopes with peel-off adhesive strips, make sure they are approved for use in laser printers.
Only use envelopes recommended for laser printers.
Use envelopes with seams that extend to the corners.

Pull out the input tray, and then slide out the paper width guides as far as possible.

Load up to 10 envelopes the input tray, and then slide in the paper length and width guides so they are resting against the envelopes.
- If the envelope flap is on the short edge, position the envelope with the flap-side up, and then insert the short edge without the flap toward the printer.
- If the envelope flap is on the long edge of the envelope, position the envelope with the flap-side down, and then insert the short, postage edge toward the printer.

Slide in the paper guides until they touch the edge of the stack of envelopes.

Close the input tray.
