Attempting to install or uninstall the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) driver when upgrading to Windows 10 may fail with the following message displayed:

The setup program ended prematurely because of the following error: Fatal error during installation.

RESOLUTION

Prevent the issue as follows:

Uninstall the IRST Driver before upgrading to Windows 10

Install the Windows 10 driver before upgrading to Windows 10

If the issue has already occurred, run the repair option using the driver from this SoftPaq:
