HP Scitex FB500 and HP Scitex FB700 Series - Printer Does Not Initialize and Control Panel Shows "GNU GRUB Version"

This document pertains to HP Scitex FB500 and FB700 printers.
When the FB500 or FB700 printer is powered on, there is normally a short display of low-level computer information before the printer software starts to load and the control panel displays the HP logo. In some rare situations the printer fails to initialize normally and instead of showing the HP logo, the following text (or similar) appears in white on a black background on the control panel:
GNU GRUB version 0.97 (638K lower / 2043456K upper memory)
[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename. ]
grub> _

If this text is observed on the control panel, it indicates that the normal software image on the hard drive has been damaged, and the printer software cannot load. If the printer is found in this state, it is an unrecoverable failure and the hard disk drive must be replaced in order to restore the printer to normal operation.
Because of manufacturing vintage and compatibility concerns, the hard disk drive is available only in a kit that includes both a replacement disk drive and a replacement motherboard. Use HP spare part CQ114-67222 FRM,FB500/700,ASSY,MOTHERBRD,ADV to obtain this kit. In the event that the existing motherboard in the printer is already compatible with the replacement SATA hard disk drive, it is not necessary to change out the motherboard.
All spare part information is subject to change without notice; visit HP PartSurfer for complete and up-to-date spare part information. For any additional assistance, contact an HP authorized reseller or the regional HP Customer Care Center.
