HP products - My operating system is not listed on HP Software and Driver Downloads

If you do not see the version of your operating system (OS) listed on the software download site for your HP product, HP does not have any downloadable software or drivers for your product for that operating system.

Many issues can be resolved by ensuring you have both the latest OS version supported for your HP product with all updates installed, and the latest HP driver updates.

If you have an HP printer, you might find a driver at 123.hp.com.

caution:
Use caution when dealing with non-HP websites offering HP driver downloads or diagnostic tools. Some sites look professional, but may charge fees, steal personal information, or worse.

Only install PC BIOS updates from HP. Installing BIOS updates from other sites can result in loss of data or functionality.

Alternative solutions might be available for your HP printer or computer.

Microsoft Windows

Check for updates and drivers through Windows or HP computer hardware partners.

note:
HP does not provide Windows drivers on HP.com for HP computers sold prior to August 2013. Microsoft makes most of the component drivers for these products available through Device Manager when Windows has access to an active internet connection.

Check for updates with Windows Update

Find and install updated software and hardware drivers for your computer with Windows.

Restart your PC to ensure any previously downloaded updates are correctly installed.
In Windows, search for and open Check for updates to open Windows Update.
- If updates are available, click Download, and then wait for the updates to install.
- If the computer is up to date, click Check for updates, and then click Download if any updates are found.
If Restart now displays, click it to complete the update.

Update drivers for specific components and hardware in Device Manager

If a hardware component such as a touchpad, video display, or keyboard is not working correctly, check for a driver update in Device Manager.

In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
Click the category of the device you want to update.
Right-click the device name, and then select Update driver.
Click Search automatically for updated driver software, and then follow the steps to install any available driver updates or search for updated drivers using Windows Update.

Add a printer or Bluetooth device with Windows drivers

Use Windows settings to automatically find and install a driver when you add a device such as a printer, scanner, or headset.

In Windows, search for and open Bluetooth and other devices.
Click Bluetooth & other devices or Printers & Scanners, depending on the device you want to set up.
Turn on the device you are setting up, and then prepare for the connection.
- Bluetooth devices: Enable pairing mode based on the manufacturer instructions.
- USB and network printers, scanners, and other peripherals: Connect the USB cable to the device and the computer, or connect the device to the same local network the computer is connected to.
Click Add Bluetooth or other device or Add a printer or scanner.
Click the device name, and then follow the instructions to complete the setup.

Get updates from the maker of the software or hardware

HP and Compaq computers that run Windows come with components and software provided by HP partners. Check with the manufacturer or software developer for updates.

If you do not know your computer product number, check for the number on a decal on the side, back, or bottom of the computer. Go to Find a desktop PC product name and number or Find a notebook PC product name and number for more options.
Go to HP Customer Support. and then search for the specifications document for your computer. For example, if you have an HP ENVY x360 Convertible notebook, model number W2K46UA#ABA, search for W2K46UA#ABA specifications.
In the specifications document, find the component or software you want to update or troubleshoot, and then note the manufacturer or developer name, component number, or version number.

Apple (macOS, iOS, iPadOS)

Install HP Smart, use Apple AirPrint, or install basic drivers to set up and use your printer.

HP Smart app (macOS, iOS, iPadOS)

The HP Smart app is compatible with most HP printers and the latest operating systems from Apple.

From your device, search for and install HP Smart from the app store. If the app is unavailable, it is not supported by your operating system version.

Apple AirPrint (macOS, iOS, iPadOS)

AirPrint is a built-in printing solution for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. You can print from most apps that have a print feature.

Apple Support driver downloads (macOS)

Download a driver from the Apple support website to use your printer with a Mac.

Make sure the printer is connected to the Mac with a USB cable or to the same local network that the Mac is connected to.
Download the driver for the operating system installed on the Mac.
- HP Printer Drivers v3.1 for OS X (in English): Supports OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion
- HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update (in English): Supports macOS 10.14, not compatible with macOS 12 and newer
Double-click the .dmg download file, and then double-click HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg to complete the installation.
Add the printer to the print queue to complete the setup.

Basic driver (macOS)

Install a generic driver when adding the printer to the Mac print queue.

Make sure the printer is connected to the Mac with a USB cable or to the same local network that the Mac is connected to.
Click the Spotlight icon to search for and open Printers & Scanners.
Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax or click the Add button (+) to open the Add Printer window.
Select your printer from the Default tab, or enter the printer IP address on the IP tab.
From the Use dropdown menu, select Generic PostScript Printer, or if the postscript driver is not listed select Generic PCL Printer.
Click Add to complete the setup.

Chromebook (Chrome OS)

Chrome OS performs automatic updates when connected to the internet, and includes a built-in printing solution that does not require an HP driver download.

When an Update Available notification displays on the computer, click Restart to Update to download and install updates.

To set up your printer, make sure it can be discovered by the computer, and then add it through Chrome OS settings.

Connect the printer USB cable to the Chromebook. For wireless printing, place the printer close to the Chromebook and within range of the Wi-Fi router, and then connect the printer to the network.
From the Chrome OS settings, click Advanced.
Under Printing, click Printers, and then click Add printer.

Android

To set up and use your printer with an Android smartphone or tablet, go to 123.hp.com to install the HP Smart app.

Additionally, you can install the HP Print Service Plugin to enable printing from supported apps. Go to Printing from Android Smartphones or Tablets for more information.

Linux

Chances are, your Linux computer already has the software it needs. All major Linux distributions regularly integrate HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) into their software releases. To get the latest release of HPLIP, visit the HPLIP website.

HP Linux Imaging and Printing (in English) is the primary software download for HP Printing solutions in Linux.
Linux Kernel Archives (in English) contains software and drivers for HP computers running Linux.

Are non-HP drivers available?

Sometimes, people who participate in the HP Support Forum recommend alternative drivers or workarounds that provide basic functionality for HP products not supported for a specific operating system. You can search existing forum threads for available options, or you can create a new thread if one concerning your product does not yet exist.
